Titan’s Story

This Titanic boat of love became GPG’s poster child for what a difference a little tender care can make. Titan, then known to us as Mr. Pit and known to people in East St. Louis as Whiteboy, had been on our feeding route for some time. His affinity for giving high fives made him that much more irresistible. But as time went by, Titan’s appearance began to deteriorate. He wasn’t neutered, and so…

Charlotte’s Story

In July 2013, during one of Gateway Pet Guardians’ daily feeding route through the streets of East St. Louis, three volunteers came upon a dirty white pup laying quite distressed in some weeds. Quickly realizing how dire the situation was, the volunteers stopped to further investigate. Upon approach, she was found bloodied, emaciated, vomiting and foaming at the mouth. When she took to interest…

Patches’ Story

Patches was rescued from a junk yard in East St. Louis. His mange was so bad, he was almost unrecognizable as a dog. Scabbed, bleeding and practically hairless, he would have been doomed to live out his short days in horrible discomfort. But thankfully, GPG volunteers found him and were able to trap him and bring him in for immediate veterinary care.

As she grew, the collar began to slowly strangle her, and the skin around her neck literally began growing over it.

Her wounds appeared as…

Humphrey’s Story

We’d seen Humphrey around for a while, but he was a feral dog and extremely shy. We couldn’t give him to just any foster family – it would have to be an experienced dog owner.  Humphrey also had a majorly broken leg and we knew his vet bills were going to be sky high.  On an unrelated story, Fox 2’s Theresa Woodard did a ride-a-long with Jamie in East St. Louis during a fateful, snowy January…
