On Monday, April 2, 2018 adoptable Percy made a surprise visit to the St. Clair County Courthouse to help a special person celebrate her retirement. Percy wanted to say thank you to Lisa Porter, State’s Attorney, on behalf of all companion animals in St. Clair County. Lisa has been instrumental in helping pets in the Metro East and has partnered with Gateway Pet Guardians on numerous projects.

Executive Director Jamie Case reflects on Lisa’s work with GPG: “Lisa has been an advocate for the animals long before I knew of her work (2015). Lisa was instrumental in getting the St. Clair County Animal Abuse Task Force started, which GPG is a part of. She has fought for our county’s animals in many many court cases. She has worked closely with Gateway Pet Guardians on unfortunate and maddening abuse cases and has guided us through the legal waters of our work. She has also been an extremely important piece of the County’s No-Kill Resolution that was passed in 2016.”

Natalie Creamer, former Community Impact Program Lead for Gateway Pet Guardians, has worked closely with Lisa for many years. “I remember I was on the search for answers on how to handle a particular case and had been hitting roadblock after roadblock. I had so many questions and was discouraged because I felt like there was nowhere to turn—and then I met Lisa! She and I became fast friends and have spent many many hours discussing different situations over the years. I learned so much from her and I don’t think she’ll ever know how grateful I am to her for her advice and compassion.”

Lisa, your work has touched so many lives. You have been an advocate for both pets and their people, and for that, we are eternally grateful. You are a true voice for the voiceless for St. Clair County and will be missed tremendously. We wish you the best of luck in your retirement!
