Cat Benetar, still looking for her home!

Cat Benetar

Gateway Pet Guardians has traditionally been centered around the rescue of dogs. But recently, we have seen an increase in the number of cats making their way through our rescue. But to rescue cats, we need special fosters that are willing to open their home to them. Beth Steele is one of those special fosters.

On July 15, 2016, we made a plea for someone to step up and help us rescue four kittens from St. Clair County Animal Control. Without hesitation, Beth said yes. That night, she brought home four adorable black kittens: Paul McCatney, Cat Benetar, Katy Purry & Catti LaBelle.

Once she got them home, she discovered the kittens had ear mites, tapeworms, and upper respiratory infections. They were also fairly malnourished and underweight. One of the girls had to spend some extra time at the vet to gain weight, and all of them were on antibiotics for two weeks to clear up their goopy eyes, wheezing, and sneezing. That same female ended up getting a hernia after her spay surgery, which required a second surgery to repair it.

It’s been a long road to recovery, but the four kittens are finally healthy enough to find their forever homes, all thanks to their foster mom, Beth! Beth describes the kittens: “Each one is very playful, very curious, and very cuddly. They can turn anything into a game or a toy. When you come home from work all of them run to greet you at the door, purring and rubbing against your legs. They love my personal cats and my dog and it’s great to watch them curl up at night with the dog and fall asleep. Two of them like to drape themselves across our necks at night while we are sleeping.”

The kittens also have a sense of adventure, providing endless entertainment. Beth says, “They work together to get into everything. No matter how hard we try to block certain areas one of them figures out how to get around it and shows the others the way. There is not one inch of the house these kittens haven’t been into, including the bathtub when someone is taking a shower!”

Luckily, two of the four kittens have found their forever homes. But Cat Benetar and Catti LaBelle are still single and ready to mingle! Think you have a home ready for these rambunctious felines?
