Missy’s mom rescued her as an adult cat six years ago. When she found her, Missy lived outside, but she quickly brought her in and introduced her to being an indoor kitty. They lived many happy years together, but her mom suddenly found herself in a tough situation. She had to move, and her new place required a pet deposit, which she couldn’t afford. She called our Community Hotline in tears looking to surrender her cat because she didn’t know what to do.

We desperately wanted to help her keep Missy. We worked with her landlord and offered to pay her pet deposit for the next five months, giving her enough time to save up for the remainder of her lease. Additionally, Missy will be fixed through our Spay/Neuter Program, which will qualify her family to receive assistance from Bi-State Pet Food Pantry. She will receive free pet food once a month which will help her mom focus on saving up for the remainder of the pet deposit.

We receive calls every day from families in these tough situations, with nowhere else to turn. Families that want to keep their pets, but need some assistance to make that happen. We help when resources are available and it’s within the family’s means to keep the pet. In doing so, we keep these pets out of area shelters and with the families that love them dearly. It’s a win-win for all involved!
