It’s kitten season! What does that mean? Kitten season refers to the time of year when many litters of kittens are born. Animal Control is currently overwhelmed with cats and kittens. While Gateway Pet Guardians has traditionally been focused on the rescue of dogs, lately we’ve tried to lend a hand to help cats and kittens whenever we have the resources.

Yesterday, three foster families stepped up, and we were able to rescue thirteen tiny kittens! Of the thirteen, eight six-week-old kittens had upper respiratory infections and needed antibiotics immediately. The other five were about four weeks old, but healthy. All were covered in fleas, and received baths once they arrived at our Emergency Shelter. But all went home to their foster families by the end of the evening, and have eaten a big meal and are snuggling and cuddling to their hearts’ content.

These thirteen kittens have a long road ahead of them, and we are so grateful to be able to nurse them back to health! But we cannot do this alone! Sadly, there will be more kittens at animal control tomorrow, and we can only help when we have foster homes available. Think you could give a few kittens tender loving care, and foster them through adoption? Learn more about fostering by visiting www.gatewaypets.com/foster. We’d love to have you as part of our foster family!
