We rescued Clemson from East St. Louis a few days ago. We noticed he’d shown up on the feeding route and we were fairly certain that his owner had dumped him there. P.J. had to try to trap him for a couple of days before we were finally successful.
He actually crawled into the trap but it didn’t trigger.
P.J. caught up with him the next day. Here she is trying to coax him with some food while she puts a slip-lead on him but he’s really unsure. She eventually succeeds.
He’s on his way to a new life!
Clemson is adjusting to foster-home life quite well, as you can see. He’s heartworm positive so he will have to go through a lengthy heartworm treatment, and he’s also being neutered. Almost every dog we rescue from East St. Louis is heartworm positive, and it’s an expensive treatment that can cost as much as $800 to $1,000 if not treated properly and the dogs have to stay relatively calm for the entirety of their treatment schedule. Gateway pays for every rescue dog’s veterinary bills before they are adopted.
