Well, Thanksgiving is officially past us, and that means one big thing – It’s officially Christmas season! If you’re anything like me, you not only have way too many holiday decorations to put up, you have too many dog-related holiday decorations to put up. Then, of course, there’s the shopping. I always struggle to find the perfect gifts for my loved ones, but finding gifts for my dog is just plain impossible. I want to make sure that whatever I buy her is healthy, diverting and something she’ll actually like.
Are you stuck too? Here are a couple of holiday gift ideas for your dog:
1. New Dog Bed

Let’s be honest, dogs spend most of their time snoozing on their beds. Maybe it’s time for a replacement or upgrade this holiday season. Be careful though! Dogs can be picky about their beds. If your dog is anything like mine (she loves to tear through things), stay away from beds filled with stuffing. I prefer orthopedic beds for my dog’s maximum comfort.
2. Treat-dispensing ToysAbout this time, your pets are probably getting a little stir-crazy from the cold weather. A treat-dispensing toy can give them the mental stimulation they need. My favorites are the Kong and Kibble Nibble. I’ve heard wonderful things about the Tornado as well.
3. The Classics
Almost every dog owner has picked up chewy bones, rope knots and rawhides for their dogs, but how often are these treats replaced? I realized a few nights ago that my dog had completely shredded her Nylabone and made a mental note to get one to throw in her stocking. I also recommend dental rawhides, especially for dogs that get sick from real rawhide.
4. Clothes
I had to include this one. Everyone has their own opinion about dogs wearing clothes. I used to refuse to dress my dog up, but then I saw this dog coat at Target. That was the end of my prejudice. My dog loves it and will go find it and carry it to me when she wants to wear it. How about a holiday-inspired outfit? Or, if you just like functional clothing, try a warm coat for those long winter walks.
5. Doggy Daycare
Sometimes what a dog really needs is some quality play time with other dogs. This holiday season, treat your pup to a day or two at doggy daycare while you run around and finish your shopping for your favorite humans. Established businesses like The Watering Bowl and Kennelwood Pet Resorts are favorites with our readers. Do you already take your pup to doggy daycare?
