In Animal Rescue, We’re Better Together
Sometimes rescuing an animal takes several organizations working together to make it happen. And when rescues work together, more lives can be saved. Last week, we had the opportunity to save two dogs in our service area thanks to partnerships with other rescue organizations. We are so thankful for their help!
Earlier this week, our volunteers found a stray dog on the top of a roof in an abandoned building in the Metro East. This dog needed help, but we had no foster homes available to house the dog. Luckily, our friends from Helping Strays of Monroe County had space in their shelter and offered assistance. Together, we rescued the dog, now named Emerson, who is now resting with a full belly in a warm safe kennel.
Last weekend, we stumbled across a scared, feral puppy while doing community outreach. Fearful dogs such as this require a special type of foster – one with patience and experience. All of our specialized foster homes were full, so we reached out to our friends at The Feral Companion, who focus on rescuing and rehabilitating feral dogs. They didn’t hesitate to help, and we worked together to trap the puppy, now named Shelby. Shelby is currently in great hands in her foster home.
Check out the video of our volunteers setting the trap for Shelby!
Animal rescue is a combination of timing, space, and available funds. It’s a juggling act for our volunteers that manage the rescue program and the fosters who open their homes to the homeless pets. There are so many pets in need, but we can’t do it alone. And thanks to our partnerships with organizations such as The Feral Companion and Helping Strays, we don’t have to. By working together, we can save more lives and continue our shared missions of helping homeless animals.
We could use your help, too. We cannot rescue without foster homes and funds. If you’re interested in opening your home to an animal in need, we’d love to have you join our foster family!
